Broadband Cable Internet Brings New Possibilities to Internet Users
Author: Julia Hall
Dial up is a very slow way of getting online, but many people are still using it because it is simple and cheap. DSL has been around for many years, but it has traditionally been expensive and the extra speed that it gives is not always enough to make up for the effort of getting a new service. Considering the importance of Internet to daily life these days, having only these two options of getting online seems fairly bleak. However, over the last couple years, a different service emerged, known as broadband cable Internet.

Student laptops need to have the following qualities: They need to be “Light”, a really light laptop is less than four pounds. A heavy laptop is over 8LBS. The problem is that a really light laptop costs over $2,000 and schools can’t afford that, so a laptop in the range of six pounds is good.

By Caroline Telford
To have Internet access at home, there are several connection types that you can use. First, there is the dial-up access where you will utilize your existing landline service to connect to the Internet. The main disadvantage of this type of connection is the slow speed.
Next, there is the mobile broadband connection which is suitable for those who often travel. With this, all you need is to subscribe to a mobile broadband service provider who will give you the equipment to use. For example, if you are given a USB dongle, that is what you will use to have Internet connection even when you are traveling.

What Are Telephone Metro Networks?
By Colin Yao
Metro networks link local switching central offices in a large metropolitan area. In these days, two types of metro networks exist: ones that have grown from traditional telephone networks and ones that have been built by nontraditional telecoms companies for different plans.
Central offices, also called switching offices, have telephone lines branch out to individual customers. And a metro network largely links all central offices in a metropolitan area such as San Francisco or New York. The part of the network from the central office to the customer is the “access network”, while that from the central office inward is the “metro network”.
